war, what is it good for?

i support the war in iraq.

"tell that to the dead children," said jon. to leftists that's a checkmate.

i was stoned so i knew i couldn't really argue coherently, so i shut up and hit the bong.

but i did some research. and i still support the war in iraq. and i will indeed tell that to the dead children. i will tell that to the 400,000 children who died preventable deaths (from malnutrition and curable diseases) between 1998 and 2003 due to regime-sanctioned diversion of foreign aid. i will tell that to the 30,000 iraqis and iranians decimated by systematic chemical attacks between 1983 and 1988. i will tell that to the estimated 75,000 kurds (actual number thought to be 50,000-100,000) wiped out by genocide and left to rot in mass graves from 1987 to 1988. i will tell that to saddam's forty murdered relatives. i will tell that to the 250,000 slaughtered during uprisings in 1991. i will tell that to the 9,645 prisoners killed during saddam's "prison-cleansing campaigns." and i will tell that to the 130 women beheaded between 2000 and 2001.

that's 764,645 known deaths directly attributable to the actions of saddam hussein. and let's not forget the thousands upon thousands displaced, raped, starved, tortured, and denied basic opportunities and freedoms we americans take for granted every day. 764,645 documented deaths caused by the hussein regime, as reported by amnesty international, the white house, the UN and various other reputable organizations.

compare that to 17,000 (generous estimate--could be anywhere from 15,654 to 17,884--from iraqbodycount.net).

764,645 vs. 17,000. i imagine both numbers will continue to climb, and yes, that sucks.

shit, i'll have to finish later. library's closing.
